PÓVOA DE VARZIM, Portugal - Session 1 of the Open European Mahjong Championship is played, with Japanese player Kota Sasaki getting a good start with the the best score after round one. Top European in the early session was German player Sabine Manten.

First gong-stroke: official opening of the MCR championship!

PÓVOA DE VARZIM, Portugal - The sixth Open European Mahjong Championship has begun. After a formal and festive opening party, finally the first gongstroke was given for the first session, lasting from 14:00~16:00 PM. The results of the first session would be published soon after all scoresheets were handed over to the jury.

PÓVOA DE VARZIM, Portugal - This afternoon at two o’clock, the kickoff of the sixth Open European Mahjong Championship will take place. Four sessions of two hours will be played today. 216 MCR-players have travelled to the Portuguese city of Póvoa de Varzim; all of them with the hope to be the next European mahjong champion.
