COPENHAGEN, Denmark - Russian all-round player Aleksei Shpilman wins the "MCR Open Danish Championship 2018" (MERS) scoring 31 table points and 971 mini-points. Romain Herdier from France scores an equal amount of table points as his fellow countryman Jean-Louis Barbet (29), but separates himself from his opponent by a tiny gap of two mini-points.

Seventy-two participants from twelve countries competed during three days in eleven sessions. Besides the invidual event all players took part in the team event. The team made up of Tina Christensen, Freddy Christiansen, Henrik Leth and Martin W. Jacobsen made no effort to disguise their intentions; team "Resistance is HU tile" effectively wiped out their adversaries and took first prize.

World Mahjong Sports Games

With the second iteration of the "World Mahjong Sports Games", organized by the 'Mahjong International League' ('MIL'), rapidly approaching, numerous tournaments worldwide are acting as a qualifier. The ten highest scoring players of the "MCR Open Danish Championship 2018" were awarded a seat in this prestigious event upcoming August 4th-12th (Individual MCR Event). During an informal dinner on the second tournament day Wenlong Li, General Secretary of the 'MIL', disclosed the location of upcoming world championship, which he repeated at the award ceremony in front of all participants: the city of Suzhou situated in the eastern-central coastal province Jiangsu.
