Marianne Croeze wins First Open Austrian Riichi

FELDKIRCHEN, August 15th, 2008 - Marianne Croeze from Holland is the first winner of a riichi mahjong tournament being organized in Austria. She was the best player on the Austrian Open Riichi Tournament in Feldkirchen.

It was a thrilling and yet quite frieNEDy championship in the Amthof at Feldkirchen on the eve of the Third Austrian Open Championship (MCR). 24 players, from all over Europe, participated in this event, organized by the Austrian Mahjong Verband, after a request of a number of Austrian players who had played in the European Riichi Mahjong Championship in Hanover, earlier this year.

After the European Championship, the Austrian championship was the first national riichi tournament where points could be earned for the European Riichi Mahjong Ranking. On this ranking, Chris Scheffler from the Netherlands currently is the number 1 player, followed by Marianne Croeze.
