MILAN, September 29 - Austrian mahjong player Martin Scheichenbauer has won the Second Open Italian Championship. Second was Laurent Mahé from France, while Vito Montanari was the first Italian player on position number 3.
48 players competed in the Lombardian capital of Milan. The tournament was played in six rounds of two hours: 3 on the first day, 3 on the second. Just a short time ago, MCR tournaments consisted of four rounds of ninety minutes, and were played during just one day. The upcoming Dutch Golden Dragon Tournament (November 11 in Nijmegen) seems to be the last of this kind.
After the Italian tournament, there is a new leader in the European Mahjong Ranking List: 13-year old French player Mathieu Ugo. Probably later this month, a new system to determine the ranking list will be published.
