DUNAUJVAROS, August 19, 2007 - The Austrian players were the big winners at the Second Hungarian Open.
Today at Dunaújváros, Martin Hoffman won the first prize of this event, just before his fellow-countryman Otto Myslivec. The Austrians also won the prize for the best national results (i.e. of Otto Myslivec, Martin Mauthner and Martin Hoffmann).
And finally, an Austrian player also won the Sisi Cup, for the best total results at the combined Austrian and Hungarian championships. Martin Hoffman received this special prize.
The leftovers were for the other players. Laurent Mahé from France was runner-up at the tournament, and the French also won the second team prize, just before the Hungarians and the Dutch.
Eti Aschenbrenner was (on position #4) the best Hungarian player, so she was declared Hungarian champion.
Zum Wohl! Champaign for the Austrian team.
The Sisi Cup, a success already
Organizers András Boda and Martin Scheichenbauer will go on with the yearly Sisi Cup.
Elisabeth, Empress of Austria and Queen of Hungary and Bohemia (1854-1898; picture above), was not only very popular during her lifetime, but still to the day, thanks to the Sissi-movies with Romy Schneider.
To honor her, this year for the first time the Sisi Cup could be won by the player who had the best accumulated scores on both the Austrian and Hungarian championship.
Next year, just like this year, both tournaments will take place next to each other. But then, probably first the Hungarian and then the Austrian tournament will be held.
