Dutch Golden Dragon Jubilee Tournament: November 15th~16th, 2008

NIJMEGEN, the Netherlands, February 2008 - This year's Golden Dragon Tournament, for the first time, will not take place on the second Saturday of November.

Organizers Sjef Strik and Martin Rep of the Dutch 'Golden Dragon Mahjong Club' have shifted the largest tournament of Europe (apart from the OEMC) to the third weekend of November. For the first time, it will be a two days tournament, with three rounds of two hours each on Saturday, November 15th, and another three rounds of two hours on the next day: Sunday, November 16th.

Anniversary

Background of these changes is that the Golden Dragon this year celebrates its tenth anniversary. The tournament had its first edition in 1999, at the time with the Hong Kong Mahjong Rules. It soon became the largest tournament of the Netherlands, not in the least because of the many foreigners, who became regulars at the event.

In 2005, some months after the successful Open European Mahjong Championship (OEMC), which also took place in Nijmegen, the tournament adapted the new Mahjong Competition Rules. The tournament remained just as popular. The last edition was won by Swiss mahjong players Ms. Bo Lang. She was the best of 108 players.
