MACAU - An exciting final round of the third annual World Series of Mahjong was held today at The Venetian Macao-Resort-Hotel. 16 mahjong players battled against each other and after 9 hours of 3 elimination rounds, the World Champion was crowned. Chan Tak-Kwan, a 34-year-old furniture salesperson from Hong Kong, outlasted the other 200 participants from more than 10 countries to win the title of “World Champion”.

It’s day 2 of the main event of the World Series of Mahjong, and the final day of the preliminary round. The top 16 players from this round will go on to play on the third and final day. Gemma Collinge of ReachMahjong.com struggled in the first day in Macau but is hoping to take some ground back before the final results are decided. ‘I managed to get over my riichi mindset.’

MACAU - A small but strong group of Riichi players gathered before the main event of the World Series of Mahjong to battle it out for a top prize of over $5000 US.
The players were almost entirely Japanese with two notable exceptions – Garthe Nelson of ReachMahjong.com fame (he is American) and the Mahjong Club qualifier winner, Shaofu from Taiwan.
