 For three terrific days the Dutch town of Utrecht was the center of the world… or at least the mahjong world.
Here, on August 27~29th 2010, the World Mahjong Championship took place. 208 participants played in this friendly, yet competitive, tournament.
Mahjong News, the Independent Internet Mahjong Newspaper, was on location the whole time, to report on the event. Reports, interviews, pictures, impressions and classifications were made and broadcoast to the world.
All the articles that were written during these three terrific days and many of the pictures that were taken, are now published in a little booklet, which is available for download for the visitors of this website.

 UTRECHT - A talk with Dutch mahjong player and analyst Anton Kösters about the just finished World Mahjong Championship. Mr. Kösters is the most experienced international mahjong player in Europe and writes columns about mahjong for the Dutch ‘Mahjong Magazine’.

 UTRECHT - Somebody slavered over the 50,000 euro massive silver mahjong set! A long wire of drivel dropped from his mouth and fell on the worst possible place: the hand-written certificate, made by the silversmith’s daughter.
Janny Adelaar is very sad when she tells it. “She now has to do it all over again. I should have put it in a plastic map or just not have shown.”

UTRECHT - The Award Ceremony of the World Mahjong Championship was a festive event - the tasteful dessert of a great three-day banquet for 208 mahjong players from all over the world. Marianne Croeze of the organizing committee was the presenting lady of this worthy closing of the championship.
