BERLICUM/HERTOGENBOSCH, the Netherlands - The famous Dutch Cherry Blossom Tournament is moving to a new venue. The 2012 edition will be held at Berlicum/Hertogenbosch, in the same inn where the yearly Daja/Thirteen Orphans MCR Tournament takes place. Subscription to the competition, which is scheduled for April, 14th, is opened. The Cherry Blossom Tournament is the eldest regular riichi mahjong tournament in Europe, and still one of the largest. In the last edition, 64 players participated; not only from the Netherlands, but also from France, Germany and the UK. The organisation of the tournament has been taken over by John and Els Kuijpers, also co-organisers of the Daja/Thirteen Orphans Tournament. They want to carry on the long tradition of the Cherry Blossom Tournament, but they also want to add new elements. E.g., after the tournament, the players can choose to join in a dinner 'Italian style'. To emphasize the new way of the competition, in the name of the tournament now also the Japanese translation 'Sakurai Taikai' is used. For more information and subscription, please check the website of the Cherry Blossom Tournament. |
