ÅRHUS - Taneli Pursiainen has won the Danish Riichi Open championship, concluded today at Århus. It was the first time a Fin won this tournament.
Runner up was Anders Labich, third prize was for Brian Krogh, both from Denmark. There were 24  competitors.

 

Taneli earlier was appointed the new Finnish member of the board of the European Mahjong Association.

They were actually talking about holding a riichi-tournament next year. Seems like something is starting to happen again in Finland at least when it comes to riichi. And I am very happy about that :)

Congrats Taneli!

And yes, there's definitely something happening in Finland riichi scene. There's actually more players around than it might seem at first glance.. It's just that we're pretty unorganized at the moment. :P

Might as well mention that Helsinki area's mahjong club will go official within a few weeks. We've been a lazy with tournament travels but you can expect that to change soon!
