The comment of Mark Chizhenok, president of Mahjong Russia and organizer of the first Open Russian Mahjong Championship on this ill-fated tournament. "I feel shame for the Russian players (though, of course, there are some of them who are great players and there are many of them who did not want to spoil the game and tried hard to play CO rules), and I am disappointed by Europeans who came and failed to come (if there were more of them they would work as a concrete for the tournament, without them two Austrians looked in the eyes of other players like disturbers of the "local peace and agreement")."By the way, I have read the story of Sandra. I am very sorry for her. But with all my respect, I think she was just a little unlucky and then too scared and embarrassed to think rationally, otherwise she would be able to call me from the hotel. Moscow is not another planet. It is a very big and complex city, and it is true that you should work hard if you new to it. "The main conclusion is: it is too early for MERS tournaments in Russia. Actally, I knew it before. I knew that better tournament is possible if more Russian players visited European tournaments and bring back the knowledge about it. But I also knew that in general the Russian players are home-stay persons, which is natural because it is difficult and expensive for them to go to Europe for a mahjong game, and it will require many years before the European and international influence reaches us here. "So, I made an attempt to speed up the process by bringing European players to Russia. Unfortunately, the result was painful. My mistake with this attempt was the status and the format of this EU-RU meeting. If it were a friendship tournament (without all this EMA-MERS-OEMC stuff) it would be much more pleasant for everyone. "I shall continue playing at the tournaments in Europe, and I do my best to bring two best Russian players to OEMC 2009. I shall support the Russia mahjong community through the activity of www.mahjong.ru. But I shall take a long rest as regards formal tournaments in Russia. Let everybody miss those times when there were tournaments. And if someone approaches me with a wish to make a tournament of his own, I will assist." |
