BERLICUM/HERTOGENBOSCH, the Netherlands - Leni Janssen, winner of the third prize of the OEMC2011 in Venice, has won the Daja/Thirteen Orphans Tournament. Runner-up was Petra Elferink, also from the Netherlands. Third place went to Belgium, i.e. Rudi Kopmanis. The MCR-tournament at Berlicum had a MERS 1 certification of the European Mahjong Association.

OCHOLT-HOWIEK, Germany - Heike Schäfer has won her first official mahjong tournament. Today, she was number one in the small Advent Tournament at Ocholt-Howiek (MCR, MERS 1). Runner-up Michael Zahradnik again confirmed his status as one of the strongest German players. Third prize went to Frauke Roos.

STRASBURG - Neither Mei Hwa Felder nor Bo Lang is exactly unhappy on her mountain in Switzerland. Now, for the first time, both 'Swiss Maids', the two only mahjong competition players in their country, were on the honorary stage of a tournament, i.e. the ‘First Tournament of the Rhine’. Mei Hwa Felder, often a bit in the shadow of Bo Lang, today in Strasburg celebrated her first victory, while her friend Bo made it to the third position. Only Marianne Croeze from Holland was allowed to stand between them: she ended as the runner-up.

MOSCOW - Austrian player Alexander Doppelhofer did not score the hattrick in Moscow he had dreamed of. The winner of the two preceding Russian open (MCR) championship ended on twelfth position. This time, the Russian championships had a real Russian winner: Igor Birukov. Runner-up was Dmitry Maksakov and the third prize went to Mahjong News columnist Vitaly Novikov; he is the creator of the Sherlock Holmes Mahjong Mysteries, which soon will start again in the Independent Internet Mahjong Newspaper.
