MESTRE - The organizing committee of the Open European Championship 2011 has published modificated quotas per country for the OEMC. Besides, the official list of registered players has been published.

A number of players has decided not to come to Italy, where the OEMC2011 will take place (July 6th~10th). Amongst them Olivier Boivin, the runner-up of the World Mahjong Championship 2010. Also Luca Gavelli, who was entitled to play because of his runner-up position in the EMA MCR ranking, will not go to Venice.

The following players have refrained from registering to the OEMC

Hungary 10
Finland 2
Slovakia 1
Sweden 1
WMC 1 (Oliv' Boivin, Fr.)
EMA Ranking 1 (Luca Gavelli, It.)

The places that have come available have been awarded to

 Austria  2
 Germany  2
 Denmark  2
 France  2
 the Netherlands
 2
 Italy  2
 Japan JMSA
 2
 Japan JMOC
 2

The two Japanese mahjong organizations now both will have eight players, so they both can formate two teams (each of four players).

Chinese

Traditionally, the big question mark for the organizers is the Chinese delegation. Marco Milandri, spokesman of the organizing committee: "We don't have their names yet, since we have communication problems with the Chinese." Yet, the deadline for registration ended on March, 13th.

The article says: The organizing committee of the Open European Championship 2011 has published modificated quotas per country for the OEMC.

However I cannot find such publication anywhere on OEMC 2011 website. Where exactly it was published?

OEMC Movies Online

On the occasion of the 100th MERS tournament, directors Bram van Erkel and Jelte Rep have granted permission to publish online the movies they made on the occasion of the first MERS tournament, the OEMC2005 in Nijmegen, the Netherlands.
Mr. Van Erkel and Mr. Rep made a documentary about the competition, which now can be watched on YouTube.
Part 1
Part 2.
Finally, the comic feature 'Mahjong in Holland' can also be watched on YouTube. In this movie, 'proof' is produced that mahjong actually was invented in Holland.
