Until last year, Mahjong Time used to organize online MORSE tournaments, where ‘MORSE’ stood for Mahjong Online Ranking System Europe. These tournaments are officially acknowledged by EMA, the European Mahjong Association. EMA and MJT no longer cooperate. Mahjong Time, however, denies that the Global Mahjong Tournaments should be considered as a replacement for the MORSE tournaments. MonthlyGMT features all styles that are played on MJT, which are six. In MORSE tournaments, only Mahjong Competition Rules (MCR) are applied. Starting next month, GMT is a weekly event, whilst MORSE was up to six tournaments per year. The tournament format is quite different: one day four sessions vs. two days and six sessions. The GMT ranking will include any player, not necessarily only Europeans. However, MCR players would get a credit for their ‘International MORSE’ (the one that includes all players from all countries) achievement so they won’t ‘start fresh’ and the results would get published as GMTR (Global Mahjong Tournament Ranking). The entry fee for GMT events is low to make the tournament affordable to more players: 100 ‘golden coins’ = 1 US dollar. ApproveMahjong Time states that there are European players who would like to participate in a MORSE tournament on MJT. That is why Mahjong Time would like EMA to approve a MORSE tournament on MJT. This is not likely, however. Recently, EMA has made an agreement with MJT’s competitor Mahjong Logic, which, amongst other things, will lead to the implementation of a new series of MORSE tournaments. Registration can be done on the MJT server: log in ournaments -> scheduled -> register. The tournaments start on Saturdays, 18:00 GMT. More information about GMT on the MJT server |
