…but many free tournaments fail to reach the minimum number of players. ISLE OF MAN/GOTHENBORG - It's there: the alternative for playing online that so many mahjong players have been waiting for. Last weekend, Mahjong Logic, or 'eMahjong', opened its servers for the mahjong fans. After getting a license these servers were physically moved from Gothenborg to the Isle of Man, the place of online gambling Europe. It will be a fierce competition with Mahjong Time, which just the other day updated its software and offered its new look to its costumers. 'Mahjong Logic is live with real money tables', the software company announced. For the first weekend, 200 players could sign up for free to play a fully automated tournament with a prize of 20 dollars (remarkably enough not euros or pounds). 71 players found their way, but only 68 could participate, for only a multiple of 4 is allowed. The final winner of the tournament, with four rounds of 15 minutes, was Derai, also known as Dutch/Portugese player Paula Pereira Gomes. Money More than on the server of MahjongTime, emphasis is on the money games at Mahjong Logic. Where MJT has separate ‘fun’ and ‘cash’ sections, Mahjong Logic puts the tables all together in one list to choose from. Buy-in goes from free to $ 5,- . Before the kick off tournament, hardly any player was to be found. After that tournament again hardly any competitors are logged in. Free tournaments in the evening often fail to start for not reaching the required minimum of four players. In the mean time, Mahjong Time is busier than ever. This year will prove to be crucial for both servers. It is like a poll on Mahjong News, but now with real consequences. As a riichi player I'm still way better off playing with japanese clients since they already have a solid playerbase and clients are better than MJT or Mahjong Logic clients.
I agree that to play for fun, JP clients are superior, so I rate MJT and ML on Cash games, as it's the only feature that isn't available elsewhere.
I think ML is better for the players, in a $5 game, the winner on MJT gets $16.50 (+50c added to jackpot), and the winner on ML gets $18.50 in a 1-hand game, and $17.75 for a full game, so I'm hoping it'll develop a playerbase.
Sorry, I do want to write about more things, but there's a 500 char limit :(
I think they will start to take off now.
It will be intressting to follow this.
Just wanted to add that they are giving away money in their freerolls which is nice.
I think its good for mahjong that some serious player with Isle of Man license etc has entered
the market.
However, i-mahjong.com, eMahjong.net and MahjongExpress.com are licensees of Mahjong Logic. You can get accounts on the three, but you end up in the same environment (at the same tables). Perhaps there are more. It might be that you can fill a table by yourself with accounts on the different sites. I haven't checked that.
