JOHOR BARU (Malaysia) - Twelve people, including four Singaporeans and an Indonesian, were fined RM800 (225 USD) each at a magistrate’s court here for gambling. The seven locals are Lee Kien Guan and Wong Lee Hoon, both 47, Tan Kok Gan and Shong Ah Noi, both, 58, Lim Siew Choon, 57, Tow Hun Weng, 68, and 42-year-old Wong Mui Fong. They along with Singaporeans Tan Thiam Soon, Chiang Soy Ba, Poh Choon Chai and Ng Chai Lin, all aged 48, and 53-year-old Indonesian Lim Kiak Bun were charged under Section 6(1) of the Open Gambling House Act 1953. They pleaded guilty to playing mahjong using chee chips at a back room of a premise located on Jalan Meldrum at about 11.20pm on July 31. (The Star Online)
