CHANGCUN - A mother and daughter were placed in administrative detention in Changchun, Jilin province (China), for making a false report to the police. The 23-year-old daughter, surnamed Chen, contacted the police on the morning of January, 1st, to report that they had been robbed and her mother stabbed by a taxi driver, who took 1.6 million yuan ($241,000) from them. The police responded to the call, though they doubted that such a large cash withdrawal would have been made from a bank. When they arrived at the scene, they also found no sign of a struggle having taken place. The officers continued to make inquiries and Chen finally confessed that her 48-year-old mother, surnamed Li, had harmed herself and asked her daughter to lie to the police about the robbery after she lost a large amount of money playing mahjong.

How can you claim to be an independant journalist when you relay second-hand, unverifiable stories, that, from what all we can know, might very well be embellished or pure fictions?
That is also why, in these trivial news stories, I usually give the link to the original article, so my readers will have a general idea about how trustful the source is.
