CHANGSHA - Doctors from China's Hunan province are reporting a syndrome that might be described as modern medicine meeting The Joy Luck Club. A 40-year-old woman with painful swelling in her left leg consulted doctors and was subsequently diagnosed with "mahjong-related" deep-vein thrombosis (DVT), a dangerous blood clot.

A video clip of the incident has sparked online criticism as the players were seen carrying on their game as emergency services rushed in, tried to revive him and then declared him dead.

TALLAHASSEE, Florida - A new gene has been identified by biologists at the Florida State University (FSU) in collaboration with colleagues at the University College London (UCL).  The gene, named Mahjong after the popular Chinese tile game, was found to be the only one that can help the good guys in the life or death 'cell competition' between healthy and cancerous cells.

MALAYSIA - Police in Malaysia recently arrested 13 individuals which included an Indonesian citizen in an online gambling raid at an Internet cafe and coffee shop. The cafe was offering online gambling as well as mahjong games in Seri Kembangan.
