b7a6a10f83c74e6c8abd106b8467ad5aLONDON - Europe's largest city museum, the Museum of London, will unveil the Galleries of Modern London, a 20-million-pound redevelopment of its galleries, on May 28.

It will tell the story of London and its inhabitants from the Great Fire of London in 1666 to the present day.

On display are over 7,000 objects telling the stories of Londoners over the past 350 years. Amongst them a mahjong set which British officers brought to London in the last century.

Professor Jack Lohman, director of the Museum of London, says the new galleries are a good example of "Museums for Social Harmony," the theme of this year's International Museum Day.

He adds the new galleries provide a home for the story of London, celebrating the unique spirit and energy of the city ahead of the 2012 Olympics.

Lohman also reveals his museum is looking at doing a joint exhibition on disease with the world's biggest city museum, the Capital Museum in Beijing, in a bid to help cities prepare for the future.
