Barend ReijnUTRECHT, the Netherlands - Players who are testing the mahjong software of Mahjong Logic are quite enthusiastic. Barend Reijn, a member of a team of Dutch testers: “The greatest thing about Mahjong Logic is the speed at which you can play. It took us one hour and twenty minutes for a complete MCR-game of sixteen games.”

He is also positive about the random tiles that players are getting. Amongst players on the Mahjong Time server there is a persistent and ineradicable rumor that at tiles are not only dealt randomly. Barend Reijn has sent MahjongNews a document, in which professional auditors  at eCOGRA are quoted about the Random Number Generator (RNG). The RNG was tested as a part of the process for Mahjong Logic to get its gaming license. According to this documentation, Mahjong Logic staff claims ‘that neither we nor anyone else can influence the RNG. Even if we give all information on how we generate random numbers, nobody can predict the next random number. So in other words, I am certain that the randomness of the tile order cannot be made better.’

Rules

Barend Reijn, a Dutch mahjong player who, as an extra income, imports Chinese automatic mahjong tables, met Jonas Alm, CEO of Mahjong Logic, at the European iGaming Congress and Expo 2009 (EIG) in Copenhagen last September.  “Jonas then asked me to test his software for me, together with some other players. So we have played MCR (Mahjong Competition Rules) and riichi mahjong a number of times.”

The team wrote down anything that was not all right, from sins against the rules to problems with the color and the size of the tiles. “All our remarks were taken care of. I think that the interface now is very user-friendly.”

When asked by MahjongNews, also other players in the team react enthusiastically. They like the pace at which the game is played. There mention also disadvantages. You cannot invite other players at your table, you just have to sit and wait. You should invite other players in advance - but then you must have their e-mail addresses or the names of their MSN, iChat or Skype accounts.

Unlike at the Mahjong Time server, Mahjong Logic has client software, which must be downloaded by those who want to play. The software runs both on Windows as Mac (Intel) computers. Beta version can be downloaded by anyone from the server.

Mr. Reijn: “There is one big difference with MahjongTime. MJT made up all kind of rankings. Mahjong Logic is more commercial. It is like a poker site. Rankings will also be made, but more as a way to determine your winnings in a tournament. Because playing for money, that is far more important here than on the MJT server.” That is why, in the first place, Mahjong Logic is trying to find costumers in the Asian market, where there are many mahjong players who like to bet for money.

Mr. Reijn is trying to gain interest at Mahjong Logic to have the World Mahjong Championship 2010 sponsored.

Another server where mahjong can be played is Tenhou, with a Japanese/English interface
