Made in China, for sale at Wehl Barend Reijn has a dream: automatic mahjong tables all over EuropeAMSTERDAM, the Netherlands - In the beautiful house of his parents, in the hamlet of Wehl in a Dutch region which is not called the Achterhoek (Hinterland) for nothing, Dutch mahjong player Barend Reijn (28) proudly walks to the gaming room. There it is: a shiny automatic mahjong table. One push on the button and the centre of the table opens. Barend throws the mahjong tiles from the desktop into the hole. Another push on the button and four freshly built walls of mahjong tiles are lifted to the table top. After some more pushes (to throw the dice), a new mahjong game can be started. No more shuffling of the tiles, no more manual building of the walls. This is all done by the amazing mahjong shuffle table. Mahjong players who have travelled to China or Japan, know the automatic tables. If they were lucky, they were also able to play on them, e.g. during the world championship in mahjong. These wonderful machines are not for sale in Europe. If, however, Barend Reijns dream comes true, this situation will soon come to an end. Barend has imported this first device only to test it, and to set up a trade connection wth China. The first model, here at Wehl, has cost him some 1,500 euros. But if he can import one hundred devices, he could sell them for considerably less than 1,000 euros. For the sals and distribution, Barend Reijn already has contacted two mahjong on line shops: Daja Mahjong in Holland, and Mahjongshop in Germany. For the after-sales, he wants to make a deal with technical firms, e.g. washer repair services. "And, of course, we will have to import lots of spare parts." Barend Reijn will show some demonstration tables during the Dutch Open Mahjong Championship, May 30~31, at Almere near Amsterdam. "People who are interested will be able to order one there", says Barend. "Or, if they think they are too expensive, to lease one." |
