AMSTERDAM, the Netherlands, January, 27th - There is a chance that a first world championship riichi mahjong will be held the years to come. And this might very well take place somewhere in Europe. Etienne DelessardPARIS - French player Etienne Delessard has passed away. He has put an end to his life on Friday, August 21st. Etienne was an active member of the Mahjong Anime Club, which he helped establishing. Last Spring, he became vice-champion of France in  the Open French Championship. 

In an announcement, his friend Olivier Boivin says: "We are all loosing  a great player, but first of all a good friend."

I have never played Mahjong but he was also a good friend of mine. I was sad to hear what happened in summer 2009. My condolences to his parents.
Rest in peace my friend.
