A disgrace It is the nightmare for every organizer of a mahjong tournament: players who do not show up. As a result of this, at the very last moment new playing schedules have to be made, while the other players, impatiently, have to wait until they can start. And that is just one of the problems. This worst-case scenario has come true for the Austrian organizers of the Third Open European Mahjong Championship at Baden. No, it is even worse: a large number (eleven players) from the most important mahjong country, China, did not come to Baden. This is an incredible disgrace for the Chinese. The Beijing based World Mahjong Organization - in fact a Chinese body - did organize a perfect World Championship two years ago in Chengdu. But this act shows contempt for the hard labour, during more than two years, for their European counterparts. It will cost much time before the European-Chinese relations will be restored after this incident. In the meantime, the European Mahjong Association should incline their ears less to the Chinese. The friends from Mahjong Country Number One have proven to be real amateurs. |
