I personally fully agree with you on the "pressure riichi", but the three last samples made me think: QUESTION: If you now have changed the shape of your hand to one of the last three samples, which of these would you then make riichi (without considering "pressure riichi")? MY ANSWER: 1st sample: ABSOLUTELY: 3 circles will give me 5 fan, so riichi would give me the sixth fan or 4000 in points difference (12000-8000). 6 circles will give me 3 fan 30, so riichi would give me the forth fan and thereby 3800 in difference (7700-3900). 2nd sample: ABSOLUTELY NOT 3 or 6 circles -> 4 fan 30, so riichi would only give me 300 points (8000-7700), unless I get some uradora. But then I would rather like to keep my flexibility to make the san shoku (mixed triple chows) and also keep the other players from thinking that I have an expensive hand. 3rd sample: ABSOLUTELY NOT 3 circles -> 2 fan 30, so riichi would only give me 1900 (3900-2000). 6 circles -> 4 fan 30, so again only 300 points. Again I would rather keep my flexibility to draw another dora, and to choose to go out on only the 6 circles, as I will only get 2000 on the 3, but 7700 on the 6. Of course all this changes if some of the other players are very dangerous, you are East, or a lot of other things... I just love riichi :)
