Empress Sisi
VIENNA - Mahjong lovers this summer can have the time of their life. During four weekends in a row, international top tournaments will be played in Austria and its neighbouring country, Hungary.
  • First, at Baden (near the Austian capital Vienna), July 1~5, there will be the Open European Mahjong Championship, where 116 players from all over the world will strive to be the third European Champion.
  • The next weekend, the travelling mahjong circus can drive the 320 kilometers to Dunaüjvarós in Hungary, where, on July 11~12 the Hungarian Open Championship will take place. Of course, any mahjong player can subscribe for this event.
  • One week later, in Bruck/Mur in Austria, the Open Austrian Championship will take place. Subscription for this tournament will be opened soon.

The best player in the two latter tournaments will receive the Sisi Cup, named after the common monarch the two countries shared in the nineteenth century. The last time, this special trophy was won by Norbert Tschinkel from Austria.

It is for the first time that the Austrian Open will take place at Bruck am Mur. At the usual location, Feldkirchen in Carinthia, however, no suitable venue was available.
