After it was clear that Japan will not use their six seat quota for the ECR, the organisers first tried to find players in EMA nations with no initial share to maximize the internationality of the tournament. But with little success: neither Belgium nor Spain or Hungary could nominate any riichi player. The only addition came from Switzerland – so a Swiss player, Jérôme Fornage, was admitted.
"Giving those seats with priority to the small quotas would be hard, as many of those nations had problems to even name those few players. Giving priority to the large quotas would easily fill the competition, but would be unfair for “mid-sized” quotas with capacity for more players."

OEMC Movies Online
On the occasion of the 100th MERS tournament, directors Bram van Erkel and Jelte Rep have granted permission to publish online the movies they made on the occasion of the first MERS tournament, the OEMC2005 in Nijmegen, the Netherlands.
Mr. Van Erkel and Mr. Rep made a documentary about the competition, which now can be watched on YouTube.

HANNOVER - The organisers of the European Riichi Mahjong Championship 2010 will raffle off the four remaining seats in the tournament. Attempts to reach the quota by approaching national mahjong organisations have been to no avail.
After it was clear that Japan will not use their six seat quota for the ECR, the organisers first tried to find players in EMA nations with no initial share to maximize the internationality of the tournament. With A lottery the dutch also can become World Championship, we will do it with soccer, or do the best we can:-)
