UDINE, May, 10th - Players of the mahjong club at Udine, Italy, presented themselves with gigantic mahjong tiles during the 2012 Far East Film Festival. Playing with the extraordinatiy tiles was welcomed by lots of spectators.

SAN DIEGO - Again relative newbies at Mahjong Time took the prizes in the RCR tournament. Registered just in September, Michael from the US (nicknamed ‘ditn’) accumulated 13 table points and took the 1000 golden coins and will have a medal on his avatar. Second was Sergey from Russia (‘eyld’) also in his first RCR tournament.

The good news is that more players are entering the tournament. RCR is the booming style to be played at Mahjong Time, reflecting the increasing popularity in live tournaments. Especially Russian players are new on the list. The bad news is, if you can call it news, that 25 perecent did not show up or left early. Unfortunately amongst them also a relatively large amount of Russians.
From a personal point of view it is quite sad that Mahjong Time is not consistent in keeping the ranking. This time they counted with the 48 subscribed players to determine the tournament score, which is correct. They haven’t done so in the October tournament, having counted with the remarkable number of 31 instead of 40 players. Hence in the official ranking of Mahjong Time I have a 4th place while in the correct ranking as shown below I hold 2nd place. Also the no shows and leavers got points in the ranking of MJT. Mahjong News disqualifies them (you wouldn’t earn points in a live tournament when you don’t show up or leave the table!) and those scores are set to zero. This is an ongoing frustration, and I am repeating myself venting it, but teaching manners seems to be a matter of persistence.

OEMC Movies Online

On the occasion of the 100th MERS tournament, directors Bram van Erkel and Jelte Rep have granted permission to publish online the movies they made on the occasion of the first MERS tournament, the OEMC2005 in Nijmegen, the Netherlands.
Mr. Van Erkel and Mr. Rep made a documentary about the competition, which now can be watched on YouTube.
