BEIJING - A chief prosecutor surnamed Fang from Jiangxi province, in Beijing for training, was conned out of 1,000 yuan (146 USD, 98 euros) by three men while playing mahjong in April. The three men were charged with fraud at Shijingshan district court, the Beijing Youth Daily reported yesterday. The suspects pretended to be prosecutors from other provinces in the same training center. They asked Fang to play mahjong in a teahouse and then worked together to relieve him of his cash. Gambling is illegal in China. There was no information on whether the official would also be charged. (China Daily) |
