TOULOUSE – It was remarkable indeed: eleven Chinese players in the French Open, earlier this month in Toulouse. Also remarkable: only one of them succeeded in entering the top-ten. But what is most remarkable, is the fuss this ‘defeat’ has caused in the homeland of mahjong.

MURCIA - Belgian player Marieke Verheyden is another Belgian tournament winner, after recent successes of her fellow countrypeople. Today, she was the strongest in the Spanish Open at Murcia (MCR, MERS 2). The runners-up were two Spanish players: Jose Moreno Merino (2nd place) and Eduardo Amador Lorent (3rd place).

TOULOUSE - French player Romain Herdier today has won the Open French Championship 2013 (MCR).
Runners-up were Nicolas Pochic (2nd place) and Jérôme Bonifas (3rd), also from France. 108 players participated in this two days event, consisting of six sessions.

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union, Philippines – A man was shot dead Thursday night by a rifle-wielding man while playing mahjong in Barangay Baracbac Este, Balaoan, La Union. Senior Inspector Rodelio Olsim, Balaoan town chief of police, identified the victim as Sherwin Gonzales, 36, a resident of said place.

MOSCOW - The grandest Russian riichi mahjong competition of the year took place on 18-19 May in Moscow. 56 participants from Russia, Ukraine, Japan and South Korea were competing for the Japan House Challenge Cup and the first prize, Nintendo 3DS XL, provided by the partner of the Cup - Nintendo Co., Ltd. The event was recorded by the Asahi Shimbun newspaper. Eight sessions 1.5 hours each, JPML-B based rules (kuitan ari, aka nashi) and the Swiss system which was applied to the Russian riichi tournament for the first time and showed successful results.

WARSAW - A cloudy Sunday morning (May 12, 2013) in Warsaw welcomed participants in ERMCQ2013 - another tournament organised by the Polish League of Mahjong. The event took place at the Culture Promotion Centre in 2 Podskarbińska St.




The Club has just been established and we have had some interest especially from beginners. We are looking always looking for members so we can also organize in-house tournaments. Any help you can offer to publicize our Club would be very helpful. Our site is www.marbellamahjong.com
I do not know how much the relative luck I enjoyed eased my games in WMC, but I got the impression that the average level of Chinese players was not signifantly higher than the one of European players, save a minority of them who played amazingly.
I want to tell , first that in Toulouse , this Tounament was initially the festival of THE Game .
